National Oversight: Under the Environment Conservation Act (ECA), the National Noise Control Regulations establish the foundation for road, aircraft, and industrial noise zones. These regulations prohibit noise nuisances and provide the overarching framework for acoustic measurement.

Provincial Specifics: It is important to note that National Regulations have been repealed in Gauteng, the Eastern Cape, the Free State, and the Western Cape. In these regions, Provincial Noise Control Regulations are in effect. These provincial standards rely extensively on SANS 10103 procedures for the measurement and rating of environmental noise.

NEM: AQA Integration: Provision for noise control is also made under the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act (NEM: AQA). While specific national noise standards under Section 34 are currently pending, it is widely expected that any future specifications will continue to align with the SANS 10103 standard.
